Parents views on EHCP Plus
We’ve recently spoken to a group of SEND parents about EHCP Plus to understand their views and inform our ongoing engagement plans.
Here are some key findings:
😤 60% of parents described the current EHCP process as “time-consuming and stressful,” highlighting the need for streamlining and reducing the burden on families.
✅ Encouragingly, over 70% of parents were supportive of using AI tools to assist in drafting EHCPs. One parent shared, “An AI tool could save time and improve the quality of EHCPs, making the process less stressful for families.”
🧒🏼 65% of parents believe that an AI tool could bring significant positive changes, particularly by reducing the drafting time by up to six hours. This would enable quicker and more efficient support for children.
🥳 Comments revealed strong appreciation for the potential time savings and support improvements from the AI tool.
⚖️ However, there is some nervousness about maintaining human involvement and ensuring the quality of the plans is high, including reflecting each individual child’s needs well.
We recognise the critical need to support parents to overcome this nervousness. Through the delivery of EHCP Plus, we will be working with Parent Carer Forums and groups, allowing us to collaborate with SEND parents to build their understanding and confidence in EHCP Plus, and gain their insight into how it could work in their local area.
Overall, parents generally support integrating AI tools into the EHCP drafting process and recognise its potential to enhance efficiency and support.
It is essential that we continue to bring parents along this collaborative journey with us, so they see the positive difference it will make to children and young people.
